The Amiga CD32, known during its development as "Spellbound", is a 32-bit gaming console crafted by Commodore and made available in regions like Europe, Australia, Canada, and Brazil. The console's unveiling took place at London's Science Museum on July 16, 1993, with its official release following in September the same year. Belonging to the broader Amiga computer and hardware family, the CD32 employs CD-ROMs for its storage needs. It operates on Commodore's Advanced Graphics Architecture chipset, boasting specifications mirroring those of the Amiga 1200 PC. With the help of third-party tools, users can augment the CD32 with additions like a keyboard, floppy drive, hard drive, RAM, and mouse, transforming it to mirror the capabilities of an Amiga 1200. An MPEG decompression module was also introduced, allowing Video CD playback. During the Christmas season post its debut, the CD32 dominated the UK market, making up 38% of all CD-ROM drive sales and surpassing the Mega-CD in terms of units sold. However, its journey was short-lived as Commodore faced bankruptcy and ceased its production.
